The Kittyhawk Post awarded a total of $14,500 in scholarships this year at the May membership meeting. The awards were presented to thirteen outstanding high school seniors and college students from the local area who are studying engineering, science, or architecture.
Four of our sustaining member firms, LJB, Woolpert, Butt Construction, and EQ funded corporate scholarships that were awarded in their names. The Turek Family also funded a scholarship. The scholarship fund also benefited from the 2009 Golf Tournament and a contribution from URS, which allowed us to award four General Barnes scholarships, three Timothy Curtis scholarships, and the Sinclair scholarship. The competition was extremely keen, with over 60 outstanding students applying for the merit-based scholarships. The remarkable accomplishments of this year’s scholars may be read at: Winner accomplishments 2010.ppt.
The Post extends sincere thanks to our sustaining member firms and fundraiser participants for their generous support—and congratulations to these young scholars.

Science Fair
Each year the Kittyhawk Post presents two awards at the West District Science Day. One award is given for the best environmental science project. This environmental award is dedicated in memory of Eric Su Yong, son of Lt Col (Retired) and Mrs. Mark Goltz. The second award is presented for the best engineering project.
West District Science Day was held at Central State University, Wilberforce, Ohio on Saturday, 20 March 2010. Nadja Turek, Tom Kolber, and Drew Titone made up the team of judges who selected the winners.
Ryan Blanford is in the 11th grade at Carroll High School, and won best engineering project for his work titled “Harvesting the Wind: A Three Year Study.” Taylor Rodenfels is in the 10th grade and attends Dayton Christian High School. She received the Eric Su Yong Goltz Award for the best environmental project for her study titled “Aerobic vs. Anaerobic Landfills.” Both winners and their families attended the April Post meeting where they presented their projects and received their awards, $200 savings bonds. Congratulations!
