The Kittyhawk Post awarded a total of $13,000 in scholarships this year at the May membership meeting. The awards were presented to twelve outstanding high school seniors and college students from the local area who are studying engineering, science, or architecture.
Four of our sustaining member firms, LJB, Woolpert, Butt Construction, and Barge, Waggoner, Sumner & Cannon, funded corporate scholarships that were awarded in their names. The Turek Family also funded a scholarship. The scholarship fund also benefited from the 2008 Golf Tournament, which allowed us to award four General Barnes scholarships, a Timothy Curtis scholarship, and two Sinclair scholarships.
The competition was extremely keen, with over 50 outstanding students applying for the merit-based scholarships. The remarkable accomplishments of this year’s scholars may be read at:

The Post extends sincere thanks to our sustaining member firms and fundraiser participants for their generous support—and congratulations to these young scholars.
